SM Prime and Youth Power Up DOE's Energy Conservation Campaign

SM Prime Holdings, in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE), Presidential Communications Office (PCO), and USAID, has launched the "You Have the Power" campaign. This initiative, supported by SM Supermalls and its corporate social responsibility arm, SM Cares, aims to promote energy efficiency and conservation while fostering a sense of shared responsibility for the environment. The campaign's roadshow recently commenced at SM Seaside City Cebu, featuring winning artworks from the Department of Energy's Digital Poster Making Contest, created by talented students from various schools in Cebu.

The roadshow, which began at SM Southmall in Las PiƱas City and continued at SM Seaside City Cebu, specifically targets the youth. By showcasing the winning entries from the DOE's poster making contest on energy efficiency and conservation, the campaign encourages young artists to express their creativity while raising awareness about sustainable practices. This youth engagement strategy ensures that the future generation becomes actively involved in building a greener and more sustainable world.

As the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, SM Cares is dedicated to promoting sustainability and community development. SM Prime, one of Southeast Asia's leading real estate developers, is committed to environmental sustainability, disaster resilience, and climate change action. The company has integrated innovative green building designs across its SM Supermalls, incorporating renewable energy sources, energy-efficient building management systems, and electric vehicle charging stations.

SM Prime's commitment to renewable energy is evident in its effort to reduce its carbon footprint. Currently, 50% of energy consumed by SM properties comes from renewable sources, which can power approximately 260,000 Filipino households. Additionally, SM Prime has established 27 electric vehicle charging stations across its malls, providing an estimated 14,000 kWh of electricity for free to users since the program's inception in April 2022. These initiatives demonstrate SM Prime's dedication to sustainable practices and encourage the public to adopt energy-efficient lifestyles.

The Department of Energy (DOE) plays a vital role in promoting renewable energy and sustainable transport. As part of the campaign, the DOE showcased solar panels and an electric vehicle display, emphasizing the importance of renewable energy sources. The USAID complements the campaign with its City of Energia app, which provides valuable information on energy efficiency and conservation to the public. Through collaboration, these organizations aim to empower individuals to make informed decisions that contribute to a cleaner and greener future.

Director Faith de Guia of the Presidential Communications Office highlights the importance of everyone's involvement in achieving energy efficiency and conservation goals. The participation of the youth is particularly significant, as they represent the future of the nation. The "You Have the Power" campaign instills in young minds the belief that they possess the ability to create a more sustainable world through their actions and choices.

SM Prime, in partnership with the DOE, PCO, and USAID, has taken an important step in promoting energy efficiency and conservation through the "You Have the Power" campaign. By engaging the youth and showcasing the winning artworks from the DOE's poster making contest, the campaign encourages sustainable practices and instills a sense of shared responsibility for the environment. SM Prime's commitment to sustainability, demonstrated through the integration of renewable energy sources and innovative green building designs, sets an example for other businesses to follow. With the collective effort of individuals, organizations, and the youth, we can create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for all.
