SM Cares Empowers PWDs and Senior Citizens with Emergency Preparedness Forum in Consolacion

In honor of National Disaster Resilience Month, SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, took a significant step towards community preparedness by launching an Emergency Preparedness Forum for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) at SM City Consolacion. The forum aimed to educate and equip attendees on understanding natural hazards and how to prepare for emergencies. This initiative reflects SM Cares' commitment to inclusivity and supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to good health and well-being, reduced inequalities, and sustainable cities and communities.

Promoting Inclusivity and Preparedness

The Emergency Preparedness Forum held at SM City Consolacion brought together various senior citizens associations and PWD groups, emphasizing the belief that no one should be left behind when it comes to disaster preparedness. With a focus on survival tips tailored to different challenges faced by senior citizens and PWDs during emergencies, the forum provided valuable knowledge to help them navigate various natural hazards, such as earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions.

Distinguished Speakers Share Insights

Esteemed speakers were invited to share their expertise during the forum. Atty. Frank Quijano, Chairperson of the National Commission of Senior Citizens, provided valuable insights into the specific needs of senior citizens during crises. Jeffrey Perez from PHIVOLCS shed light on the science behind natural disasters, while renowned survival expert Dr. Ted Esguerra offered practical Survival Tips for Senior Citizens and PWDs. The speakers' contributions enriched the forum and empowered the attendees with valuable knowledge.

These accolades are a testament to the organization's commitment to making a positive impact on society.

Supporting Sustainable Development Goals
