The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to foster business growth, support industries, and promote sustainable practices in the fishery sector. In partnership with the AFOS Foundation (AFOS), the CCCI embarked on a transformative 2-day learning visit to the FISH VISAYAS Project Sites in Bohol on July 29-30, 2023. This insightful visit aimed to enhance their understanding of site conditions, encourage collaboration, identify challenges and opportunities, and advance sustainable fisheries practices in the Central Visayas region.
Understanding the FISH VISAYAS Project
The FISH VISAYAS Project, which stands for Fostering Inclusive and Sustainable Habitats, is a collaborative endeavor between CCCI and AFOS, focusing on promoting sustainable fisheries and related food value chains in the Central Visayas. This joint effort aims to support marine ecosystems and communities while fostering inclusive growth and responsible practices within the region.
Exploring Bohol's Bountiful Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)
During the visit, the CCCI delegation, joined by AFOS Foundation delegates, had the opportunity to explore various strategically located Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the municipalities of Albuquerque, Ubay, and Carlos P. Garcia in Bohol. These MPAs provided shelter to diverse species of mangrove, mangrove crabs, blue-swimming crabs, fishes, and giant clams, showcasing the region's rich biodiversity and ecological importance.
Unveiling the Unique "Asin Tibuok" Sea Salt Production
Among the highlights of the visit was a trip to Albuquerque, Bohol, where the delegation witnessed the rarest sea salt production in the world, known as "Asin Tibuok." This traditional method of salt production is a testament to Bohol's unique cultural heritage and has the potential for future economic opportunities in the region.
